Set within a wooded hill on the outskirts of Bude, Cornwall. This property is hidden from view, creating a perfect wooded hideaway for it's new owners.

The design drew inspiration from contemporary homes in the LA hills and luxury tree house designs in Bali, Indonesia. The design provides the perfect synergy between modern living and the natural environment.

The large glass openings and wooden cladding effortlessly blend the house within it's natural environment, creating a tranquil and blissful place to relax.

Internally, the spacious first floor is perfect for both entertaining and family living, with a large kitchen, dining area, utility, and relaxing lounge area, with bi-fold doors that open to the gardens.

The first floor features four large bedrooms. The master suite has a large balcony and ensuite bathroom.

Bol Y Maer Luxury Apartments

Bol y Maer luxury apartments are located in the heart of Bude, Cornwall. With stunning sea views and a short walk to Bude beach, this prestigious new development is exquisitely styled, with an impressive private swimming pool.

Metters and Wellby Architects were instructed at the start of this project, and oversaw the project until completion. Metters and Wellby Architects produced concept architectural plans, created 3D renders and produced documents needed to achieve planning permission. We then managed the design elements pf the construction phase, working closely with the project team to ensure a stunning finished design.

The apartments have replaced two tired 1970's bungalows and have transformed the plot into eight contemporary luxury apartments.

The striking contemporary swimming pool features a reflective ceiling, which cascades light through the room. The swimming pool makes the apartments highly appealing to the luxury holiday rental market.

Ensuring to capitalise on the natural landscape and sea views, the building design uses large glass windows and balconies, providing far reaching coastal views across Bude.

The interior design style perfectly complements contemporary architecture. The apartments are the embodiment of seaside living, with large open-plan social areas and modern bedrooms with minimalist ensuite bathrooms.

With a choice of layouts, each apartment has been designed with premium finishes and generous outdoor spaces, creating an elegant yet contemporary place to live, that is peaceful, tranquil and relaxing.

Avalen

Avalen is all about the contrast between inside and out, with a stealthy black exterior. Using Sushuigiban charred natural timber, metal seamed roof and aluminium window frames. The brightly coloured front door hints at the vibrant interior spaces within.

The upside-down layout ensures to maximise the available sea views.

The interior is a combination of bold colours and light and airy architectural features designed to maximise natural light into the space.

The light and spacious interior forms provide the perfect setting for our creative clients to showcase their own hand built furniture and interior design skills.

We have used an innovative insulated concrete form work wall system with exceptionally high insulation levels, coupled with an air source heat pump and solar panels to create an energy-efficient family home for the long term.

A fantastic project to be involved with Metters and Welby’s Services included:

This included interior and exterior finishing specifications, as well as electrical and lighting layouts.

The flowing internal design is spacious and dramatic with an open-plan living area, high vaulted ceilings and an impressive internal balcony. The bedrooms feature large windows, that provide stunning views of Bude, Cornwall and flood the internal space with light.

Large bi-fold doors open from the living room, directly onto the stylish two-tiered patio, that leads onto the family garden area.

We worked closely with the client to ensure we delivered on their brief, designing a sophisticated and stylish home, striking the balance between traditional pitch roofed built forms and contemporary architectural features, whilst meeting their everyday needs and requirements.

Beaufort House

With glorious sea views, this wonderful Grade II listed Georgian town house in the heart of Fowey is set right on the waters' edge of the River Fowey. Metters and Wellby Architects were instructed to add a modern extension and terrace to the property. The terrace provides stunning views across the water, the perfect place to relax with friends and family.

The terrace combines modern elements with traditional features, including the stone walls and wooden decking. The bifold doors cascade light though the living areas, allowing for a seamless flow between the interior and exterior.

The Old Hay Barn

Metters and Wellby Architects secured planning permission for this expansive agricultural barn conversion in Cornwall. We worked closely with the client, completing the full architectural design plans and layout plans, as well as all technical details and building regulation drawings.

Once planning permission had been granted, our client, a contractor and self builder, managed the construction phase.

The design intentionally blends contemporary finishes with traditional features. We ensured to showcase the barn's original elements, exposing the traditional truss roof structure and stone walls, complimented by a modern open plan living spaces.

Large glazed openings maximise the expansive views of the Cornish countryside. The stunning grounds surrounding the property and addition of a hot tub provides a luxury haven in the Cornish countryside.

Tregarthens Cottage

Tregarthens is a traditional cottage set within the idyllic Cornish Countryside, on the outskirts of Bude Cornwall.

The brief to Metters and Wellby Architects was to create a traditional extension, with modern element, creating more space and a larger living area for the client.

The gorgeous extension, uses traditional finishes, including soft wood tones, exposed beams and large openings that lead onto the decking area and gardens beyond.

The timeless design perfectly complements the original cottage. The wooden floors transition smoothly from the internal living area, to the outside decking space.

Incorporating a modern open-plan living space, with traditional interior finishes, including an oak floor, wooden effect framed windows, and a traditional kitchen, the result is a homely and cosy space to relax.

Rosehip Cottage

Metters and Wellby achieved planning permission for side and rear extensions on the ground level to the existing dwelling at Rosehip Cottage, Breakwater Road.

The extension required full planning approval as the cottage is located in the Bude conservation area.

The new extension used traditional materials with a painted render finish and slate roof, complementing the existing dwelling and respecting the original forms whilst providing a more functional space for the client. The glazed roof draws light into the heart of the building and gives views up to the high level garden space.

This modest yet practical extension has transformed the internal layout of the cottage whilst ensuring negligible impact to the conservation area on Breakwater Road.

Trebursye

Metters and Wellby Architects achieved planning permission for this large family home, in Launceston, Cornwall, in 2020.

We were briefed to design a four-bedroom family home, with a large open plan living space, plus annex accommodation. The client wanted a contemporary style, with simple, but dramatic architectural features.

The sizeable open plan living area overlooks the external patio, providing a bright and airy living space with views of the Cornish countryside.

Outside boasts a luxurious tiered decking area, with a sunken hot tub that has far reaching views. The hot tub is positioned under a stylish louvered pergoloa style structure that provides sun and shade.

The rear of the property features large windows that are positioned purposely to maximise the views of the Cornish countryside. The windows flood the internal space with natural light and views from the south east aspect.

The annex needed to be linked to the main house but with a distinct separation, and also required an open plan living area, a bedroom with storage, wet room and sewing room.

The annex has a private terrace within the sun path, creating a gorgeous private area. A large vaulted ceiling internally provides a dramatic effect to the living space, with a mezzanine floor that accommodates the sewing room.

This project is still under construction,  below are the 3D render images created by Metters and Wellby Architects, the original architectural plans and current construction images.
